Mary Wallace Email and Phone Number
I have recently completed my PhD in Entomology at the University of Kentucky with a research focus on RNA interference as a bioinsecticide for the pine-killing bark beetle, Ips calligraphus. This project aims to provide a sustainable and effective solution to augment existing silviculture for protecting forest and plantation ecosystems from this eruptive pest.I have extensive experience in conducting fundamental research on RNAi, from designing and evaluating novel dsRNAs to trigger gene silencing, to developing a transgenic bark beetle-associated yeast as a potential scalable dsRNA delivery method. I have also applied my skills in bioinformatics, molecular biology, and insect bioassays to translate transcriptomic data into actionable gene targets and investigate genetic mechanisms underlying RNAi and chemosensation.

Facilitated laboratory sessions focused on molecular biology techniques such as gene expression analysis, protein quantification, and transgene insertion into Pseudomonas putida. -
Entomology Intern - Discovery Biology, Plant HealthGreenlight Biosciences Apr 2022 - Jun 2022Durham, North Carolina, United StatesConducted research with the entomology team in discovery biology to advance a lepidopteran-focused crop protection project. My role involved working across multiple cross-functional teams including bioassay, bioanalytics, and mode of action. I used results from insect bioassays to suggest data-driven next steps, and communicated these findings to both internal and external collaborators. -
