About Maryam Gharib

After a long career journey in teaching, my passion for developing materials to support learning led me to the Instructional Design and Educational Technology program at Simon Fraser University, where I had the opportunity to be a research assistant , a mentor, and a content developer in a digital literacy program. I have more than 5 years of experience at schools, and post-secondary education. My latest position as an instructor was at TUMS and EIHE where I taught Technical Terminology courses to undergrad students of Medicine and Engineering.My research interest was intitally Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) and I had the opportunity to work with my preofessors on a variety of topics in this field. My thesis was on integrating LMS and web apps into language learning classrooms and later I co-authored a book chapter in the "Handbook of Individual Differences in CALL” on an EFL Website Usability which was a designed and hosted for my own students at Tehran Medical University.My background in research and teaching EFL and ESP (Medical Terminology) in a variety of contexts such as school, college, and university, helped me to combine instructional design expertise with a deep understanding of cognitive learning processes for both young learners and adults. In my previous instructor roles, I frequently undergo challenges that restricted equal and proper delivery of instruction and education to learners. Therefore, I particularly believe in promoting Universal Design of Learning (UDL) to remove the conventional barriers in education and technology is empowering us to bring that into reality.My aim is to design instruction that allows for a meaningful and life-long learning experience while supporting both the learner and the institution's goals.
