About Mary Haight

My career began as a Nursing Assistant at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak as a Staff Nurse at the same facility upon graduation from nursing school. I was assigned to a busy medical unit working primarily the afternoon and midnight shifts. While in nursing school I became interested in researching a career in the United States Navy. I was commissioned an officer in the United States Navy from 1980-1987. I actively served on various units within the hospital setting. Duty Stations were: Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; Okinawa, Japan; and Bethesda Naval Hospital, Maryland. I received an Honorable Discharge with the rank of Lieutenant. Upon discharge from the Navy, I worked an assortment of staff nurse positions in hospitals, correctional, office and home care assignments. I have experience in Medical/Surgical Units and Intensive Care Units. I maintained nursing license in Michigan, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC from 1993-1998. When returning to Michigan in 1996, I worked several non-nursing positions due to family medical responsibilities. In 1998, I returned to employment as a nurse in the long term care setting and have remained there since. Most of my experience in medical facilities have been afternoon and midnight shifts but am flexible to work any shift. I maintain a current Basic Life Support certification and Michigan Registered Nurse License. I have a long term goal to obtain my Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. I was nominated as the Employee of the Month on 2 separate occasions at 2 different facilities. As a young Naval Officer, due to my abilities, I was offered a long-term career position and was informed by a noteworthy senior officer that I was one of their best nurses. I utilize the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation while watching for any deterrence from patient goals, seeking solutions for them and complete implementation in a timely manner.
