I believe caregivers are the unsung heroes of modern time. As our population ages, the need for caregiver support at every level is vital. I'm pleased to serve in this role as Senior Advisor, Caregiving to provide leadership, management, and guidance in support of the Community Foundation's grantmaking and special projects related to caregivers of older adults. This role provides a unique opportunity for me to draw on 30+ years of administrative and leadership experience, combined with over 10 years volunteering to support issues related to older adults. I serve as an expert resource on caregiving issues and related initiatives as well as developing and maintaining relationships with community leaders, charitable giving partners, and nonprofit organizations.

As a National Volunteer Facilitation & Training Team (VFTT) Member, I work to increase training and facilitation capacity within AARP by providing volunteer-led training and facilitative services under the guidance of Office of Volunteer Engagement (OVE). VFTT team members work in partnership with AARP staff and other volunteers, across the U.S. to deliver learning and development experiences for volunteers and staff at all levels of AARP. We support AARP’s strategic objectives and work closely with the Office of Community Engagement (OCE) to bring relevant training and resources to staff and volunteers working in local communities.

I facilitate AARP supported initiatives related to caregiver advocacy, financial resiliency, disrupt aging, and working with individuals as they reimagine their careers after the age of 50 within the Detroit metropolitan area and nationally as a national volunteer facilitator.

This position incorporates the breadth of experience I have acquired over the past 20+ years in higher education as an administrator and in various positions of counseling, academic advising, and teaching. My current administrative responsibilities include managing a staff of professionals responsible for a full scope of services from recruitment, admissions, advising, and graduation certification for 9 academic programs and 26 degree and certificate programs related to the health care professions.

Planned and facilitated campus visitation programs, national Big 10 recruitment caravans, undergraduate summer research program, and graduate summer bridge program for Rackham Merit Scholars. This position also provided the opportunity for me to hire, train, and mentor recruitment staff and graduate student assistants.

This position included opportunities to market and provide academic planning and advising to a racially and ethnically diverse population of over 1,000 UAW represented personnel at two automotive manufacturing facilities in Detroit and Livonia Michigan. I was able to provide resources and recommendations for to assist employees to utilize their tuition assistance benefits for technical, undergraduate, or graduate programs.
