I conducted innovative research in astrophysics. I used large datasets to investigate why the expansion of our Universe is accelerating, one of the most outstanding open problems in modern Physics. Have a look at the media section for some highlights of my research which made to the press. Main responsibilities: • Designing projects, creative thinking, solving complex problems, writing scientific papers, presenting results at international conferences; • Processing and archiving data from one of the largest survey of the sky (Kilo Degree Survey): Software development in python and c++; • Extract information from data and data modelling: advanced statistics, bayesian analysis, machine learning techniques; • Image processing: developing, testing and calibrating new algorithms; • Managing an international team of 30 people; • Coaching and training master and PhD students;

I have developed new softwares and pipelines to analyse large astronomical dataset, as well as new statistical techniques to optimal extract information from the data. I was also involved in designing requirements on performances of algorithms for a future ESA (European Space Agency) mission which will be launched in 2020. Part of my duties at the University was also to supervise bachelor, master and PhD students and to do public outreach.Responsibilities: • Developing algorithms and softwares for image processing;• Data mining;• Designing pipelines for the analysis of large astronomical datasets.
