R&D manager, head of the Italian OSS R&D section of NSN. I was in charge of R&D for the “NetViewer suite”, the Nokia Siemens NMS (Network Management System) solution for managing microwave networks; my team managed all the development cycle of the product, starting from the architectural design, to implementation and final testing, including also the integration of the product in umbrella systems, both from NSN and from other vendors.In the NetViewer project, I played also the R&D Project Manager role, driving developments in multisite mode; I had also Program Management responsibilities, initially as line manager of the assigned Program Manager and then taking on this role.Role responsibilities:­- Leading the unit (about 35 employees divided in different teams plus sub contractors / partners in other countries, rising in some periods to 100 people overall).- Driving the development of all the Network Management Systems (NMS) products of NSN for microwave networks, starting from software architecture design to implementation and final testing.- Project monitoring and project inter sites coordination.­- Main point of reference in OSS R&D in negotiating the product roadmaps with the product managers.­- Implementation of business line strategies and directives, product and sub contractor strategies included.- implementation of the site strategy directives, planning the insourcing and/or offshoring of the development of some product components, organizing the necessary competence transfers and adapting the project organization structure in order to be able to manage effectively remote sites. ­- New processes introduction, together with the relevant support tools.­- Customer problems escalation management.­- Supplier management from the technical point of view.­- Unit cost center management.

Team leader in the R&D SW area of Siemens COM Italy. I was in charge of microwave equipment LMT (Local Management Terminal) and the relevant EMS (Element Manager System) developments. The EMS was a multi client – multi server system running on Windows servers, with server components coded mainly in C++, client components coded in Java and a MS-SQL database.Role responsibilities:­- Leading the team (up to 12 employees and 12-15 onsite subcontractors).­- Responsible for the design and development of SW for microwave equipment management.­- Responsible for the detailed definition of the features to be implemented, after the high level agreement with the business responsible for the product.­- Full responsibility for the technical choices in SW product implementation.­- Guiding the technical relationship with 3rd party microwave equipment suppliers for agreeing the equipment management interfaces. In this context, I had contacts with companies located in Japan, Israel and France.

Main tasks:­- C++ developments for real time operative systems, proprietary first and then bought ”off the shelf” (VxWorks).­- Technical engineer responsible for the controller card SW platform and its customization.­- Definition of the communication mechanisms with the EMS and the relevant MIBS and protocols.
