Responsibilities• Managing team of 10 alongside Head of Design, including recruitment, objective setting and controlling budgets in conjunction with Publishing Director.• Individual line management responsibility for 3 direct reports.• Successful interpretation and completion of design briefs within allocated deadlines and budgets, producing over 2,500 covers per year. (250 per designer approx).• Managing and commissioning freelance designers, illustrators and photographers in order to meet bound copy dates.• Sourcing images and negotiating prices with image banks, obtaining rights for images and clearing copyright.• Effective communication with internal departments to ensure smooth running of publishing and design process.• Creating strong brand identity for a competitive market.Projects• Negotiating e-rights company wide to future-proof against electronic usage.• Integration of new acquisitions into existing design process and brand guidelines.• Visit and training in Boston and New York offices, rebrand major global series identity.• Creation and implementation of design department guidelines.• Analysis of design department budget and expenditure.• Create and maintain department training for new starters and shadowing programme.
