SFCT Pty Ltd was established in 2009 to further the development of my patented “Solid Fuel Combustion Turbine”. The business has grown and evolved to provide consulting and turnkey biomass energy solutions for clients in the primary and agriculture sectors. Our typical projects range in value up to $5M and include total engineering (concept & process design, civil, mechanical, I&E). As owner and Managing Director, my role includes building the business through strategic leadership, financial management, developing a client base, finding leads, presenting and closing deals as well as strong technical, design and Project Management input to ensure project success.

Brightwater Engineering was a multidiscipline EPC company that employs approximately 250 + staff, has offices in Australia and New Zealand with a turn-over ~$100M. Brightwater Engineering specializes in Bulk Handling Projects within Mining, Energy and Forestry sectors. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team and reporting to the Group CEO, I had full responsibility for all aspects of the Australian business. Whilst heavily involved with business development, I was ultimately responsible for the management of multiple projects in a safe, efficient and profitable manner nationally. This included all aspects of Bid Management, Contract Negotiations, Project Management, Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management. During 2014 we secured $60M of new projects whilst further increasing revenue and margin-in-backlog. Cooperating closely with the CEO and the Board of Directors, I was instrumental to drive significant strategic and operational change during the last 12 months to bring the business back to profitability. This was achieved by implementing new initiatives which include Asian fabrication strategy, outsourcing for low-cost country engineering services, establishing various local and international JV’s, implementing a Matrix Management Structure to remove departmental “silos”, streamlining project estimating, implementation of “Bid Strategy”, greater accuracy in financial forecasting and a keen eye for overhead cost reduction. My strategic focus has been centric around a cultural shift in our people and delivering cost effective solutions to our clients; specifically to engage with my team and my peers so that they clearly understand the needs of our customers, what our competitive advantages are, improving internal efficiencies, and eliminating bureaucracy so we will remain competitive in the long term.

As Operations Manager, I established a new branch for Brightwater Engineering in Perth, Western Australia. The business has grown from a zero base to profitably managing projects with a combined value of $50M in two the years. The role includes staff recruitment and development, customer management, preparing annual budgets and plans as well as ensuring that our projects are completed in accordance with the requirements of the customer and contracts. The business experienced rapid growth and grew to 15 full-time office staff plus 80 construction staff.

As Project Manager, I managed various Bulk Materials Handling projects in Mining, Woodchip, Timber and Biomass and Cement. Tasks include customer management, design review, purchasing, subcontractor management (civil, electrical, I&C), schedules, budgets, site supervision, installation and commissioning. Project values were up to $8M.

Wilson Engineering Systems was the preeminent sawmill design, engineering and Project Management Company in New Zealand. Based in Auckland, we designed and delivered various sawmill and wood chip projects in New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands. My role as Project Manager included general business development, management of engineering and design, preparing tender documents, supervising installation and final commissioning of projects with values up to $7M.

Quetta, Pakistan

I was Plant & Technical Manager at various LM6000 Gas Turbine Power Plants in Western Australia, Indonesia, Pakistan. The largest was the 140 Mw HCPC project in Quetta. I managed up to 80 O&M staff, lead and completed LM6000 engine changes using local nationals without any external assistance.

I was Start-up Support Technician during the final stages of construction for the BOC Gases Project in Gresik, Surabaya. The role included training local nationals and new plant start-up for three Solar Mars 100 gas turbines, three HRSG's, two Steam Turbines for generation, one Steam Turbine for gas compression, and a Cryogenic Oxygen Plant, as well as all BOP equipment.
