Conducted analysis, simulation modeling, and optimization of the illumination quality in sensor UI-elements for an improved user experience. Condensed the findings into several concepts for the redesign of the existing user interface. Selected prototypes were 3D-printed and tested, identifying the ideal solution for implementation in an injection-molding process. General design rules for sensor UI-elements were derived. This work will serve as the base for the development of a next-generation user interface for various sensor families, benefitting SICK Germany, USA, and Singapore in shortening development cycles.
