The focus of our bird banding program is to increase data collection on Neotropical bird species, as well as better understand migrational patterns/behaviour of North American Neotropical migrant species. We conduct long term monitoring of resident and neotropical species travelling to and through the Maya Mountains of Belize. The Maya Mountains are a part of The Selva Maya tropical rainforest region, which is the biggest stretch of tropical rainforest in Mesoamerica. The Maya Mountains and it’s many ecosystems are relatively unexplored, especially the use and importance of the area by neotropical resident and migrants. At T.R.B.O we believe that education is key to conserving wildlife. We offer presentations to local and international tourists on avian research techniques and conservation. We host a variety of high school groups, scout groups, community development NGO’s and University groups from around the world to teach them about opportunities as bird biologists and why we need to protect and enhance diversity. Finally, through training we engage local volunteers to teach them about wildlife techniques. Our goal is to help train Belizean wildlife technicians and offer student of the N.R.M program at the University of Belize opportunity to get hands on experience and training in the field. We also offer training to interns as well as travellers visiting the station. We teach bird extractions, bird banding, bird ID from sight and calls, point count surveys and much more. Show less
