Having completed a Masters degree in Anthropology at the University of Ottawa, I have developed knowledge on questions pertaining to identity, ethnicity, culture, performance, musical practices and ''culturalism'' taken as contemporary claims to cultural distinction among indigenous peoples or various ethnic minorities worldwide. As an Anthropology Master candidate, I have been studying how musical forms can be used and mobilized as a mean to the expression of contemporary ethnic identities through particular historical contexts. I have been focusing on the case of the 'dambura', a Central-Asian two-string lute present in Northern and Central Afghanistan, exploring its use and popularity among the Hazara ethnic minority in Afghanistan and abroad. My research, while focusing on this precise case, touches other questions and interests of which I am also passionate about: identity and self-understanding, ethnomusicology, national myths, ethnicity, ethno-history and ethnogensis, displacement, cultural revival movements, worldwide indigeneity, indigenous discourse, imperial and internal colonialism, etc.With musical expression as a potential common denominator, I intent to pursue further academic research in exploring similar or comparable discourses among indigenous communities or ethnic minorities mainly within the former-soviet space, especially Central-Asia, North Asia (Siberia) and parts of Western Russia and the Arctic Circle. The question of the ressurgence of local ancestral spiritual beliefs practices (shamanism) in relation to institutional religions (Christianity, Buddhism, Islam) is also something I seek to research more in depth. I have done some volunteering English teaching in Ukraine and Russia, which allowed me to consolidate my knowledge of the Russian language. I also have been as a teaching assistant for the School of Sociological and Anthropological Studies at the University of Ottawa, from September 2012 till December 2014.
