I became an area leader around May of 2021, I was promoted from a cnc operator. I am in charge of a two cell area. We have two cnc machines that produce two different products at the same time. I am in charge of seven people, four assemblers, one chop saw operator and one cnc operator. My job is to make sure the area operates as smoothly and effectively as possible. My duties include ensuring we have lumber pulled for the saw operator to cut to be ran on the cnc. I need to work with the cnc operator and assist them if there are issues with programs, spoil boards, machine tools, etc. I assist the builders by helping them build the first product of the shift and whenever we change to run a different product. This helps to ensure the products coming off the cnc go together correctly, that the hardware packs for the customers are correct and helps the builders understand how to assemble the products and why we do it. I also ensure that we have the hardware needed for the products we are making and that we have the boxes needed.

I started off building the roofs. After a few months I started setting the roofs and sidewalls instead of just building the roofs.

Wakarusa, Indiana

I start out the day be setting windshields in the front caps. After that my main job is to build the rear caps. Duties include putting in the tail lights, the clearance lights, reverse camera and docking lights and the grilles. After everything is put on I run the wiring harness on the inside of the cap.

I ran the lines that cut and ground the edge of the windshields. Duties involved changing cutting wheels, grinding wheels, cleaning shrouds to keep coolant flowing in the shrouds for the cells. Performing changeovers involved changing programs throughout the lines then setting up the cutting machine and grinding cells. I had to make x,y and z movements to ensure glass would be cut, broken out and ground correctly.

Milford, Indiana

I had to read blueprints and weld all component parts to make desired part. I had to be able to set welders up for the part I was making and also know when weld tips needed to be changed to ensure quality welds.

Ligonier, Indiana

I ran the furnaces that the windshields went through. Duties include being able to maintain a consistent heat in the furnace to make sure the windshields were bent to specification. In order to do this, I had to learn to read a historical chart and learn what each individual line meant so I could make necessary adjustments. Changeovers included changing all the fixtures in every bin to the next part we were setting up for. After that I changed programs on the main computer for the furnace and adjusted the heat according to the last run sheet. I also had to change programs on the load robots and set up the hand on them so they could pick the windshields up.
