My role within Index Management evolved slightly from April 2017 whereby a select few of us were put together to form a sub-team that would focus primarily on managing all M&A activity and complex corporate actions and events within the EMEA region as a whole. Due to the high level of scrutiny and sensitivity in the work we do, the role has lead us to be increasingly involved with our Policy, Guidance and Methodology team - where a lot of our treatment and processes are discussed in order to best reflect each and every complex event within FTSE Russell Indices.

I work in the Index Management EMEA team at FTSE Russell as an Index Analyst. I maintain and manage all UK indices - focusing mainly on Corporate Actions and Events and treating the index to reflect the necessary adjustments.Shortly after settling into the role, I have been encouraged to delve more into investigating Corporate Actions and Events, understanding how we would reflect such events in our indices. These vary from vanilla corporate actions such as Rights Issues/Offerings, Open Offers, Bonus Issues, Consolidations and Capital Returns, to the more complex events covering all M&A activity, Tender Offers and Primary/Secondary Offerings.Other responsibilities include; ensuring that all production runs are completed correctly so that products are sent to clients on time, managing the FTSE UK Expiries (Monthly/Quarterly) and ensuring they are completed correctly and communicated to clients as quickly as possible.

In February 2013 I was presented with the opportunity to move into a role within the Operations Department at City Index. It is a role that I had no previous experience in, however was approached by the head of the department regarding this role.The role consists of several time-sensitive, daily duties. My main task is to complete the daily bank reconciliations for all of our Segregated, Non-Segregated, US, and AUS bank accounts. This is all carried out on the Intellimatch system, which is also used for extracting information for daily reports such as KPI's and Automatching statistics.Over the past 6 months I have been tasked with completing a number of our Equites recs, which entails; Investigating trade breaks/queries, pricing differences and to also carry out any necessary cash adjustments on a daily basis. This is very much an area of the function I am keen to excel in.The role has exposed me to a completely different side to the business and it is something I really enjoy. I am particularly keen to learn more about the business operation at City Index and also the stock markets in general.

My role in the Corporate Services department at City Index has evolved as of January 2012. This is partly due to the addition of a department administrator which has enabled me to focus on more advanced aspects of Procurement.My main responsibilites include;- Managing the relationship with the supplier.- Managing/reviewing the contracts/agreements with our suppliers - on a global scale- Updating the Procurement site on our staff intranet - contract database, department supplier lists.- Monthly review of contracts on the database to establish whether the service is required or if termination is required.This role enables me to interact with the whole company, on a global scale. I look after all agreements for all of the City Index offices in New Jersey, Florida, China, Poland, Australia and Singapore. As a result, I feel this will really help me gain knowledge and an understanding of how the company operates.Around September time I am looking to start my CIPPs qualifications which will hopefully give me more of an insight to the roles in Procurement. I look forward to learning about all aspects of contract negotiation, the tender process, and the general process of the formation of contracts/service agreements/SLA's/NDA's etc.
