As a labor and employment attorney, I represent management in all facets of workplace law. My focus is providing clients with practical advice regarding compliance with state and federal labor and employment laws, employee performance management, drafting and enforcing employment policies and procedures, disability management, wage and hour issues, and reductions in force. I work with my clients on more than just assessing risk. My focus is on developing strategies to determine what can be done, and what should be done, to help minimize risk while accomplishing the company's goals.As an experienced litigator, I represent clients in all types of employment litigation matters in federal and state court and before the EEOC and Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination. I have experience representing clients on traditional labor law issues as well, and regularly represent clients at arbitration hearings and before the National Labor Relations Board. As with day-to-day advice and counseling, I take a practical approach to litigation. The immediate priority of litigation is to identify my client's goals and then develop a litigation plan best suited to achieve those goals. Finally, I routlinely conduct engaging and informative training programs for managers and human resource professionals on legal compliance and best practices. I use my experiences in employment litigation to illustrate why best practices (such as careful and timely documentation, accurate and detalied performance evaluations, and prompt and thorough investigations) are important and the real-life consequences for the company, and the managers themselves, of failing to follow them.
