This is at the heart of what I do. The synergy of designing, making, growing your own food and making room for nature is in my view central to the concept of regenerative thinking and living.Learning how to make things and grow things has influenced nearly everything I have done. I studied architecture at Kingston University, London and at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen and built my first solar house with Bill Dunster whilst a student in 1993. I have since worked with many other amazing people who have set the highest standard for ‘green design’ including working on the World’s most sustainable university campus and a lot of zero carbon housing.Increasingly now I realise the importance of developing regenerative design principles for the largest masterplan to designs for the smallest garden buildings. Products too need to be part of the circular economy and the habitats and things we create for ourselves must now answer the call to put more back than we take. This all goes hand in hand with massive reductions in CO2, cutting out toxic materials and most importantly thinking about what we can all do as individuals – the power of one person to make change that inspires others to do the same.To do this we must rethink how, why and where we build and what materials and energy sources we use. The regenerative revolution must be total in its concept and revitalise natural sources of materials like forests. We must only use renewable energy and restore ecosystems and habitats which have been damaged, degraded and marginalised by development.I have my own company that develops sustainable products with two patents pending and multiple design registrations. I have considerable experience across many areas of design and construction but my core interest is - and has always been - in developing the next sustainable revolution.
