Parks, Recreation & Public Facilities, Assistant Director
Current• Responsible for the day to day operations of the department and supervision of three divisions; Parks & Public Lands, Recreation, and Event Venues. Establishes community partnerships and sponsorships, secures and executes grants for construction of parks and playgrounds. Prepares both the operating and capital budgets; approves all major expenditures and oversees divisional expenditures. Oversees the planning, implementation and promotion of all parks and recreation programs, events and Park or Facility related construction and renovation Projects. Manages all contracts and grant funds. Assists the Department Director in all aspects of managing the Parks and Recreation Department.• Recreation and Leisure Services Division oversees the Bob Makinson Aquatic Center, Fortune Road Athletic Complex, Chambers Park Community Center, Oak Street Park Community Center, and Mark Durbin Community Park. The Bob Makinson Aquatic Center features eight 25 yard lap lanes, a children’s play pool, 170 foot water slide, two diving boards, and a concession area. • Parks and Public Land Division supports and manages more than 450 acres of property including local parks like the beautiful Lakefront Park, ball fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, and the well-known Rose Hill Cemetery. Additionally the City of Kissimmee has partnered with the State of Florida and Osceola County in the development and management of the Shingle Creek Regional Park. This regional park encompasses over 1,000 acres and includes properties from the Orange County line to Lake Tohopekaliga, and is one of the Region’s largest environmental parks with canoeing, kayaking, hiking, and ecological experiences.• Events and Venues Division is responsible for planning and coordinating over 250 year round community events and festivals.
