Proposed and led a successful IR&D project to create an embedded real-time 3D Point Cloud terrain mapping system based on a predecessor aerial drone equipped with LiDAR. Design featured custom memory management and optical hardware calibration algorithms to support real-time operation.Lead Software Developer for an upper atmospheric modeling and forecasting system to predict atmospheric drag on satellites, building upon a high level system prototype designed by Atmospheric Scientists. Leveraged cluster computing with MPI and efficient numerical methods inC to coordinate an ensemble of parallel physics models and rapidly assimilate their calculations into a unified forecast. Collaborated with Atmospheric Scientists to design methods to optimize analysis of model outputs — first in equations and then in code — and led a small team of junior software engineers to bring the product to fruition. Also responsible for developing test procedures and system documentation.Lead Developer of original 3D Point Cloud software package for aerial terrain mapping using data from an aerial drone equipped with LIDAR. Performed technical acceptance testing of new subsystem components by designing unit-level and system-level tests to validate performance and reliability requirements.Designed and Developed Automated Test Equipment for rapid validation of system components, including algorithms for classification and feature extraction from oscilloscope waveform captures, emulation of subsystems with controllable fault injection, and low-level interfacing with microcontrollers and FPGA's.Debugged and optimized HPC physics environment simulation. Isolated and fixed spurious errors resulting from memory corruption and race conditions. Applied numerical methods to improve both speed and accuracy of environment calculations.
