As a quality improvement co-op with QualPro, I took an assistant role for the main consultant. With the role came analyzing data from multivariable tests, assisted in brainstorming sessions, and presented recommendations to companies in order to improve the performance and quality of various processes.

With Glass Coatings and Concepts, I focused on implementing new equipment. This included both known technologies as well as new analytical equipment. This new equipment is used to determine qualities for certain glass enamels.

For my third co-op I focused on the update of existing automation equipment on one of the spray dryers at Shepherd Color. A different spray dryer had been updated with great results, so I was asked to continue the project. I was also tasked with updating piping and instrumentation drawings for a kiln using AutoCAD.

On my second co-op rotation at Shepherd Color, I was given the opportunity to be a part of a project that had begun on my first rotation. We had an opportunity to collect data from our rotary calciner that would help us narrow down causes for poor quality product. This was done by adding pressure and temperature recording equipment that would allow the engineer to monitor the air flow rate through the calciner.

This was my first co-op rotation at The Shepherd Color Company. This rotation I was given two projects that were smaller in size with leadership opportunities in both. For one project I was tasked with creating a way to contain product in the event that a pump failed and spilled material. I designed and contracted a manufacturer to build a containment box that not only contained the product, but was also designed to allow easy access to the malfunctioning pump. The other task I was given was the implementation of a Keyence photo eye. The purpose of this project was to reduce the amount of contaminants that reached our final product.
