As an ESG specialist within the research staff, I monitor and analyze sustainability characteristics of global stocks, and specifically within dozens of unique and actively managed portfolios.I oversee and generate reporting, assist in new strategy development, and create research covering stocks and their regulatory environments through an ESG lens. This research is employed by our portfolio managers, and often used for client facing materials. I also represent the research staff in meetings with both institutional and retail clients.

At it's core, my job is to provide reports to portfolio managers so they can properly manage over $100 billion. To generalize, a third of my time is spent on boutique research coming in from senior managers and analysts, a third is spent on reoccurring reports monitoring the performance of various portfolios and economic fundamentals, and a third is spent studying finance, looking for any information the market has yet to price in.

As a Fund Accountant, I'm primarily responsible for the monitoring 23 Investment Funds. I ensure the funds are legally represented in over 70 countries, both from an investor and investment perspective. This entails regular coordination with international tax advisers and administrators. Documentation of these processes is critical, second only to remaining vigilant and agile to any new developments within the regulatory environments I work with. I analyse expense ratios to ensure all costs are being properly accounted for and to protect the underlying investors from paying erroneous charges. In addition to the reports I generate, I provide commentary to upper management explaining any notable variances month over month. I find this aspect of the reports to be the most rewarding because it allows me to take accounting principles which may be foreign to senior managers and break it down into something concise and understandable. In addition to monitoring expenses as a whole, I also ensure that invoices are paid in a timely manor and provide the expense allocations that ultimately are entered into the firm's general ledger. This aspect of my job is another great exercise in communication. I'm the primary point of contact senior management uses when making the final approval on invoice payments, so staying organized and being prepared to field an array of questioning is critical. Not all questions I address are expense related though. I frequently research requirements needed to invest directly in foreign markets, assist in the legal and regulatory fillings of the Funds, and maintain a record of all internal requests my team completes. Overall, I've found that my best work stems from by ability to communicate with everyone from a CEO to a client.

In operations, I worked on separately managed private client accounts. In this role, I maintained the operational aspects of a wide variety of accounts such as IRAs, Trusts, and Joint Accounts. Largely, I served as a liaison between the clients and the Financial Institutions that custodied the client's assets. I handled everything from a simple withdrawal, to settling and transferring accounts following a death. The latter of which entailed coordinating with lawyers, outside accountants, and family members.
