I have been working as an Electrician now for 17 years, however I have been around the trade as long as I can remember. my father was also an electrician that ran his own electrical business while I was growing up. At the age of 20 I began working for a large electrical contractor, where I stayed and worked for almost 2 years, by this time I wanted to learn more about electrical theory, and becoming what I consider it takes to be a real electrician, and not just a wire puller. At this time in my career I decided to go and work for a electrical service company where I became a good electrician, however the company I was working with had changed there business model to a commission based sales company and it rubbed me the wrong way so I joined the electrical union I really excelled at this point and learned allot about what it takes to be great in the electrical industry, however at the age of 27 I thought I was naive and decided to get my electrical administrator's license and started my own electrical contracting company. It only took 3 years for me to realize I was a really good electrician but not as good of an administrator. I sucked up my pride and closed down my business and went to work as a Forman for an electrical contracting company. But something was wrong I could not find a way to enjoy what I loved about being an electrician. I realized this was mist likely due the new construction type of work, it was just not challenging enough. I than began working for the company I currently work for where I really got to become a great troubleshooter for several different types of mechanical and waste water treatment systems I feel im appreciated for my work and enjoy my service work type structure.
