I have the benefit of experience from two careers. The first was in financial services from 1982 to 2009. In those 27 years, I started as a trust account manager at a bank and evolved to the Chief Administrative Officer role, responsible for legal, HR, the ethics office, public relations/communications, regulatory relations and all corporate governance at a diversified financial services company with offices across the US and Canada. During my second career, in higher education for the past 10 years, I have served as the special assistant for strategy and special projects for the Vice Chancellor of a regional campus of Indiana University Purdue University in Columbus, IN. The special projects have been varied and focused principally on the outward facing elements of the university (community and regional stakeholders). They have also focused on helping the Vice Chancellor accomplish management and operational objectives that required my skills.Finally, and along with two former colleagues, I started and manage a scholarship fund for undocumented Latino higher education students. This program includes identifying and supporting mentors for our students since 100% of them come from families with limited educational achievement and pressing economic need. This private effort has been particularly rewarding as we have paid tuition and fees for 65 undocumented students to attend community college or university over the past seven years. We expect to add more students to our scholarship list until national immigration reform resolves this issue.I am fluent in Spanish and conversational in French and Italian. To that I would add that I am now struggling in Portuguese.
