About Matt Spangler

I’ve been a grant professional for five years, exploring various aspects of grantmaking and program management as I work to positively impact organizations and missions I believe in. During that time, I have helped raise nearly $4 million in funding from government, foundation and corporate sources. I have helped small- and medium-sized nonprofits build their capabilities with prospecting, writing proposals, winning grants, and improving their internal processes. I have also helped nonprofits in ways that flex my expertise in other communications areas, including social media governance and content, media strategy and content creation.I started my career in journalism, then spent over a decade working for the federal government in public and legislative affairs. Combined with a Master's in Public Policy, my track record of content creation, media relations, crisis communication and public policy helped me pivot to the nonprofit sector. With a view of how public-private partnerships work, as well as deep insight into the role of nonprofits in advancing social and environmental justice, my purpose is to use my communication skills to bring an organization’s mission to life, and to help them build a sustainable and impactful future.
