I joined the Science and Technologies Facilities Council for my industrial placement year between my third and fourth year of study at the University of Leeds. I was employed by the Scientific Software Group which is a part of the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source Science Facility at Rutherford Appleton Laboratories (RAL). I developed the Mantid software (https://www.mantidproject.org/), a framework to reduce and visualise materials science data, which is used not only by the RAL site but also other international science facilities. My role included, but was not limited to, the following - Programming in C++ and Python- Designing and implementing user interfaces using the Qt library - Writing user and developer documentation- Participating in user beta testing with scientists during a release sprint- Participating in developer smoke testing before the end of a release cycle- General software maintenance- Working as a team on a large code baseDuring my time working on the Mantid project, I joined the team and worked fully remotely due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

School Of Computing

Working with Dr Nick Efford to develop teaching resources for use in the level 3 module Secure Computing. This included developing worksheets and demonstrations for students explaining different software vulnerabilities including SQL injection and Cross-Site Scripting. The worksheets are created with Sphinx and use external resources for some teaching material.
