I have been fascinated with computers my whole life. Growing up, both of my parents were involved in the tech field, and their interests pushed me to know just as much as they did and more. What stands out more from their teachings was the knowledge I learned on the path that led me to where I am today. I am the oldest of four brothers. In that life, I learned skills such as independence, self-sufficiency, and an ability to handle interpersonal conflict. Along with my parents, notably, Sam Harris has shaped the ethics of my life. I try to live an ethical life as much as possible. Character is a foundation attribute of my life that I am proud of. These include integrity, compassion, and empathy. These building blocks have shaped me into the person I am today. Within the computer field, there are others that also shaped how I see technology and have bolstered my interest in the field. People such as Allan Turing and Charles Babbage all thought of computers very differently than we do today. Their perspectives have given rise to an amalgamation of ethics and technology. These two sides have created an interest within me for computer ethics, a field of technology that I believe is not given the proper spotlight today. My goal is to try and create a better understanding of the ethics behind computers and how we use them…an important but often forgotten part of computer science.
