Safety Investigator
As a Safety Investigator specialising in human factors, I providing expert advice on human performance and complex system safety. As part of proactive investigation approaches I explored themes and relationships in accident/incident data applying the knowledge and understanding of socio-technical systems, human performance and system thinking principles to identify critical system influences. Able to transition between reactive and proactive approaches, I also investigated specific aviation accidents/incidents, to determine the facts, establish the causal factors and recommend mitigating actions to prevent re-occurrence. I became recognised in my role for: o Undertaking investigations as Investigator-in-charge (IIC) or team member, providing input to, and peer review of, human factors aspects of the investigationo Applying human factors and system thinking principles to identify system factors, analysing the impacts on complex aviation systems.o Providing advice, support and training, on human performance topics across the aviation system, as the safety investigation unit’s human factors specialist o Conducting human factors assessments and investigations supporting regulatory activities o Representing CAANZ at professional psychology/human factors forums, fostering collaborative ties with peers to ensure best human factors practiceo Working un-supervised in difficult and demanding circumstances and/or environments, whilst meeting high professional standards, integrity and credibility.
Design Certification Engineer
In this role I was responsible for conducting structural and system analysis, and preparing and checking design data, to demonstrate compliance with relevant regulatory requirements. This required me to be proficient at understanding and assessing the ergonomic and usability aspects of the design, including the human-machine-interface. In order to ensure the design changes demonstrated compliance with the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority (NZCAA) or any other relevant authoritative bodies regulations, I was required to produced and reviewed technical assessments, design drawings and technical publication supplements, for the repairs and/or modifications to aircraft/rotorcraft. This role demonstrates my ability to understand complex legislation, research all aspects of the task, assess design usability, analyse the findings and present the data in a formal report.
Sales Engineer - Factory Automation
As a consultant sales engineer for a range of automation and production control systems, I quickly gained a diverse understanding of complicated systems. Skilled at forming effective relationships, at all levels, I was able to provide constructive collaborative solutions to complex problems. I was responsible for the South Wales and South West England region, providing factory automation solutions, whether it be new product/project launches to everyday production issues. The product range included, photoelectric, fibre optic and laser sensors, barcode readers, light guards, control units and static elimination equipment. Utilising in-depth product knowledge and creative problem-solving, I was able to provide effective solutions and ongoing technical support across many different manufacturing and production systems from automotive, logistics, food and packaging to special purpose machine building. During my last two years at university, I worked in the Manufacturing Engineering Office, as a production-engineering liaising with both technical staff and skilled tradesmen. I am competent in the use of AutoCAD 2000, Catia and also Pro-Engineer three-dimensional modelling. Capable of creating, implementing and using industrial standard operating procedures. I successfully concluded my training to fulfil the final year as a skilled aircraft fitter, in the field of repair and overhaul and new build of Lynx Helicopter Main Rotor Gearboxes. Responsibilities included working to a high standard of quality and safety in a team and alone, working closely with the build inspectors and supervision in the factory environment.
