Light Reading/Heavy Reading was acquired by Informa in 2016. Following the acquisition, continued as Managing Editor of Heavy Reading. Remained final editor and primary designer for all reports, white papers, and PowerPoint presentations, as focus continued to shift toward custom research projects for high-profile clients. Informa merged our unit with another recently acquired telecom market analyst firm and eliminated my position in late 2018.

Light Reading/Heavy Reading was spun out of UBM as an independent entity in 2014, with a select team of employees kept on board and tasked with returning the business to growth after several down quarters. Helped guide company-wide content strategy and shift our research focus from individual report sales to custom reports and sponsored white papers for clients such as Cisco, Huawei, Intel, Juniper, Fujitsu, and the U.S. Department of Defense. Succeeded in significantly increasing revenue, reestablishing profitability for the larger company and making it an attractive target for acquisition by Informa in 2016.

Helped found Heavy Reading, a new branch of the Light Reading brand focused on market research and analysis. When Light Reading was acquired by UBM shortly thereafter, managed a team that grew from two to 10 analysts, and later two other editors, as well as an array of freelance contributors. Tracked multiple ongoing projects and enforced deadlines; supervised production processes, line editing, and copy editing; and established and monitored editorial standards. Authored the company style guide. Wrote marketing copy for website and email promotions. Created templates for multiple publications, designing elements such as logos; and crafted countless charts, diagrams, and infographics to present complex technical data and market research in a style accessible to a general audience.

Maintained the site’s daily news feed of industry press releases. Curated a shared database of companies, industry associations, and other organizations in our areas of coverage. Compiled and checked daily and weekly newsletters for distribution.
