Director of newly formed Ashfield Volunteering after helping to merge the three local volunteer bureaus of Hucknall, Kirkby in Ashfield and Sutton in Ashfield together. Helped to oversee the merger as former Chair of Hucknall Volunteer Bureau.

Reporting to a Management Committee of volunteers, I had full responsibility for the running of this Community Resource Centre that opened to the public in June 2004, with the aim of providing a central point for the community to access local services. I was recruited to this role as the Management Committee were developing a feasibility study for the centre. My role was to complete this study, and then find funding to fulfil this vision.I ran the centre for 4 ½ years, developing new projects and recruiting charities to operate from the centre to ensure sustainability. The role included line management of 6 paid employees and up to 10 volunteers. My role was no longer required in its current format, as the centre can be sustained by the Management Committee overseeing a caretaker manager.Key aspects and achievements within this role were:Raising £570k funding to purchase and renovate the community resource centre building to ensure it was fit for purpose. This included £353k from the National Lottery Community Fund which, at the time, was one of the biggest grants awarded to a small group in the East Midlands.Acting as key decision maker on all design and architectural decisions involved in the refurbishment of the building.Project Managing all aspects of the design and development which spanned two years, ensuring the whole project came in on time and within budget.Building relationships and networks with all local voluntary and statutory agencies, and recruiting these agencies, where relevant, to operate from within the centre. Also PR and marketingDay to day management of the centre, including budgetary control and maintenance.Setting up an Ofsted-registered crèche.Setting up a healthy living café as an education resource, as well as to drive people into the centre. Within this I designed the kitchen, and café layout, menu and marketing Development of a major heritage project for the local area, with a £43k grant from the Heritage Lottery.
