I have been engaged in Australian and New Zealand demographics for almost 25 years, as an analyst and population forecaster. I have an intimate knowledge of drivers of population change at a highly localised level. This is a key to robust small-area modelling processes. I'm passionate about cities and regions, especially their development over time and the fundamental interaction between planning, economic forces and social trends on outcomes for population.I worked at .id (the population experts) for almost twenty years, creating the population forecasting infrastructure for the company. This was for local government (forecast.id), which has been used in more than 150 Local Government Areas in Australia and New Zealand. I also developed the general small area forecasts (known as SAFi).I was also involved in a range of consulting projects, including applied forecasts for local government, primary and secondary education, retailers, developers and utilities. Other consulting projects focused on housing, mortality and migration research. Prior to joining .id, I worked in the planning area of State Government of Victoria for five years, undertaking population and urban research, as well as forecasting.
