After completing a research-based Master of Management Studies in Economics at the University of Waikato, I joined the Bank of New Zealand as a Graduate in March 2023. I am based in the Debt Capital Markets team, focusing on securitisation originations.In my thesis, I explored the effect of price changes in the New Zealand housing market on national inequality. Contrary to anecdotal evidence from New Zealand political parties and media outlets, rising house prices decreased wealth inequality; all else held constant. This is due to the relatively equitable spread of housing assets across the wealth distribution, as the wealthiest New Zealanders generally store their wealth in equities instead of housing assets. This is a similar finding to other developed nations. Before my Masters, I completed a Bachelor of Business at the University of Waikato, majoring in Economics and minoring in Chemistry. My chemistry background gives me a strong understanding of the natural world and the sustainability targets of many companies and institutions.While completing my undergraduate degree, I interned at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand in the Data Strategy team. Here I undertook a project to understand how New Zealanders use cash and what their views towards a New Zealand Government digital currency are. This involved a diverse range of technical data analytics skills, including natural language processing and sentiment analysis. My project findings were used in reports released to the public. The stand-out highlights of my undergraduate degree include two economic investigations. Through one, I demonstrated a relationship between alcohol consumption and income, where moderate drinkers were found to earn a wage premium. During the other, I used my chemistry knowledge and found a diet that minimised carbon emissions while meeting all the daily nutritional requirements. This was a feasible diet for the average New Zealander. Please feel free to contact me for further explanation of my research.Alongside my studies, I was an economics tutor for three separate papers. These included an econometrics paper, an introductory economics paper, and a global economy paper. I have also completed independent contract work for multiple data analytics projects and worked in the hospitality industry for six summers when I was younger. This is where I gained customer service skills and the ability to communicate with a diverse range of people.
