The graduate scheme included 2 varied roles, and a number of training and development courses. The first role was a process improvement role, in which I developed a feedback tool to help drive out problems affecting our customers, and problems which hinder our call-centre agents ability to deal with our customers issues. My second role was in project management, where I played a crucial role in the running of a transformational project to enable our desk and field sales teams to optimise by streamlining processes to make them more efficient, and providing the necessary tools to support their operations.Working in the PMO for a £250m transformational programme with £500m benefit, I developed a dependency management methodology, gaining buy-in from senior management. I also helped re-shape the governance for the programme, enabling streamlined reporting and better decision making.

I worked in a team bidding for large government contracts to carry out development work in Africa and Asia on behalf of the UK Government. Activities included competitor analysis, where I understood the competitors key selling points, enabling the team to tailor our bid according to our strengths and highlight their weaknesses. Furthermore, during my recruitment activities, I used my ability to build relationships to gain trust and buy-in from complete strangers. I cold-called a number of specialists from Africa and the Middle East, sold them the prospect of working as part of AECOM’s project team, before successfully signing them up. Lastly, I conducted internal research, asking the right questions and building relationships with key stakeholders from a variety of departments in order to understand and demonstrate AECOM’s capabilities in the bids.

I thrived in the customer facing environment within retail, quickly developed an understanding of the products and propositions, and by the end of the placement, I had also learnt how to use the software in order to process contracts. This enabled me to harness his target driven nature and quickly increase the revenues of the store, contributing towards the daily targets. Furthermore, I also understood many of the processes in order to care for the customers, allowing me build good relationships with customers, and even upsell of the back of resolving issues. I was pro-active in approaching customers, asking the right questions in order to understand their requirements, before offering a product that would leave them. Lastly, as part of a project to increase broadband sales within the Essex&Herts region, I asked the right questions via a survey to understand why sales were low and designed a solution based on the feedback in the form of a broadband pack. This included sales guides, one-pagers and Siebel training, and led to my region being the top selling region for broadband in the UK.
