Mr. Matia is a native of Cleveland, OH and a graduate of Bowling Green State University (OH). He is the FEMA Liaison to the FBI’s NJTTF, serving as a Task Force Officer. In this capacity he supports the NJTTF by providing subject matter expertise and advice on issues dealing with consequence management actions in response to a major disaster or emergency response event.Mr. Matia has worked in the emergency management community since 1987.He was a senior program manager for the Information and Technologies Division of TRW, Inc. prior to joining FEMA in 2002. Mr. Matia’s initial assignment with FEMA Region II in New York City was as the Operations Branch Chief, coordinating support planning and operations with the States of New York, New Jersey, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the Territory of the US Virgin Islands. He subsequently served as the Deputy Region Administrator until 2008. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, and was awarded a Master’s degree in Systems Management from Troy State University (AL) in 1983, and is also a graduate of the United States Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, PA. In 2008 Mr. Matia was designated as a Senior Fellow for Homeland Security. Mr. Matia served in the US Army, both Active and Reserve, from 1974 to 2010. He has commanded at the battalion, brigade, and major functional command levels in Army Aviation. Retiring in April 2010 as a Brigadier General.
