KAS is a current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) lab. In my role as Senior Analyst at KAS, I am responsible for preparation of client samples, analysis of samples, and preparation of reports. I also have been involved in the design of experiments for projects and generation of statements of work and associated budgeting for projects. I also work on maintaining and implementing quality documents, including the drafting of SOPs and work instructions. I have extensive solid-state NMR experience with the Bruker Topspin software and the NEO spectrometers. I routinely run 13C, 15N, 19F, and 31P SSNMR spectroscopy on samples. I have experience running less common 29Si. 27Al, and 11B as well.

Graduate Research AssistantMichigan State University Jun 2006 - Mar 2012Michigan State UniversityMy graduate school work focused on studying the HIV gp41 fusion protein using solid state NMR to characterize secondary and tertiary structure of the fusion peptide region when gp41 is in the low energy post fusion six helix bundle (SHB) state. This required expression of the 92 residue SHB to be expressed by E. coli, and then the generation of the fusion peptide (FP) by t-boc synthesis allowing for selective incorporation of 13C/15N labeled amino acids into the FP region. The two parts were then ligated together by the native chemical ligation (NCL) to produce the full 115 residue protein. The protein was introduced into lipid vesicles, and then characterized by solid-state NMR spectroscopy in addition to other biophysical characterization techniques. As part of the project, I developed efficient methods to produce the SHB and FP portions of the protein, and increase the yield of the NCL reaction from 5 to 20%, significantly reducing the time from 2 months to a week to prepare samples for analysis when all starting materials were available.
