Matthew Reich was the founder of the Boston Food Co-op in 1970 and in 1974 began a career at Citibank in corporate lending. He left Citi to become Director of Operations for International Circulation Distributors, the distribution division of Hearst Magazines. Reich left Corporate life in 1982 when he started New Amsterdam Beer, the first craft brewery in New York City. After he sold the brewery in 1990, he went on to become the Chief Operating Officer at Terra Chips. After a successful sale of Terra Chips, Reich joined Tom Cat Bakery as Chief Operating Officer and helped grow the company into the largest artisan bakery in New York City. In 2008 he became the President of Tom Cat after it was sold to a private equity group. In 2011 he began a career as a non-profit executive when he joined City Harvest as Vice President of Food Sourcing and IT. In this role, he was responsible for helping City Harvest rescue 52 million pounds of food in 2015 from the local and national supply chain as well as optimizing the organization’s use of technology. Reich was also Vice President of Operations from 2012-2014, responsible for Transportation, Logistics, and Warehouse Operations. He is a former rock and ice climber, and is a dedicated cyclist.Reich retired from City Harvest in 2015 and is currently the Board Chair of Greyston Bakery, on the Board of Hot Bread Kitchen, and a member of the Advisory Council of Transportation Alternatives.
