As a Literature and Drama teacher, Matthew teaches and mentors students through classwork and the production of yearly shows.As a Literature teacher, he maintains a strict curriculum of classic texts designed to expose middle and high school students to a variety of materials from the ancient, medieval, and modern worlds. He executes the curriculum through the Socratic Seminar Method, encouraging students to take ownership of their education through increased classroom participation and text annotation. He focuses on writing assignments as the greatest tool a student can develop to communicate with their communities. As a Drama teacher, he directs multiple shows a year and organizes showcases to ensure equal participation and education of students in theatrical subjects from verse to stage combat. He specialized in Shakespeare, which he teaches to elementary, middle, and high school students, designing unique curriculums for each level to cater to their personal development.

Matthew Smaldone serves as the Executive Producer and Senior Writer & Director for Chameleon Film Studios. As Head Director, he leads the creative vision of the team, working with the cinematographer, art director, and post-production artists to coordinate the cooperation between branches of production and produce a unified artistic vision. As Head Writer, he writes and edits all scripts to provide quality entertainment and artistic value, works with the cinematographer, assistant director, and location producer to manage and adjust scripts based on logistics and production needs, and serves as Copywriter for all marketing efforts.As Executive Producer, he oversees the production of films from conception to distribution, including the creation and execution of production budgets, hiring personnel, fundraising, event coordination, brand unification, and business development.Chameleon Film Studios has successfully produced 5 short films, 1 documentary, and 2 feature films. They have successfully crowdsourced over $40,000 in only one fiscal quarter through a targeted social media campaign and in-person events. They have been awarded three Best Short Film awards, eight Semi-Finalist and Finalist awards, a Best Direction award, an Audience Choice Award, and have been screened at over a dozen festivals including the Albuquerque Mindfield Film Festival in New Mexico, Filmapalooza in Hollywood, and the Horsetooth International Film Festival in Fort Collins, CO.

As the Digital Communications Manager, Matthew oversaw all digital communication and coordination between departments and resources of the Notre Dame parish and school, including managing the digital calendar, creating original social media content through photography of parish events, writing relevant and engaging copy, creating original graphics, and managed all platforms to ensure an up-to-date online presence. He also created and disseminated a weekly newsletter that contained an editorial column on faith and art, created and managed the parish and school websites, and oversaw large-scale events such as the coordination and planning of the parish’s 65th anniversary which was attended by over 500 parishioners.
