Working within the Yorkshire and Humber Clinical Research Network as part of the Agile Research Team (ART).The ART Team works within Trusts in the NHS, Community Care and Prisons to help support research delivery. A major component of the Support Officer role will be performing research approaches and participant recruitment. This ensures that study sites have the resources needed to ensure good quality research delivery for a portfolio of research studies.Within the role I have worked on PIBD BioResource, Harmonie, Approach and Fast Track. These have taken place primarily in secondary care, with my aim being to branch out towards primary care research in the future.

Within this role, I work as part of the laboratory team in a UKAS accredited lab ensuring the quick turnaround of received samples. The role requires a strong work ethic and attention to detail. Working in a public health setting requires passion and a desire for the needs of the service user to be met.Preventx provides sexual health testing for a number of national clients including SH.UK and Sexual Health London. Within the laboratory, samples are prepped and tested with a fast turnaround for the ease of mind of the user.The Senior laboratory technician role encompasses all stages of the testing process, from preparation to testing and authorising results. Particular results, for example Syphilis and Gonorrhea, require a further confirmatory test. These are performed by Senior Laboratory Technicians and are paramount to the process, to ensure the service user receives accurate and reliable results.Within the role, one of my main focuses has been optimising productivity within the laboratory. Through this I employed my skills gained in previous management roles to aid in the streamlining of the process. This ensures that a two day turnaround for negative results and a three day turnaround for positive results can be comfortably achieved.

Whilst working for Revolution Bar Group, with the help of a fantastic People Development Team I gained a plethora of transferable skills that have greatly helped me in subsequent employment.My main responsibilities included leading the team on a day to day basis and ensuring the smooth running of the business. This required a capacity for dynamic problem solving in a fast paced environment as well as excellent interpersonal skills to aid both staff and customers.Other skills I developed included; Labour Management and Budget Control, Inventory Management, People Development and Training, and Recruitment among others.All of this experience allowed me a smooth transition when it came to changing industries once I had completed my MSc programme.

In 2017 I spent a month in the Peruvian Amazon with a group of scientists from varying areas of research.The aim was to assess the ecological and biodiversity differences between primary and secondary rainforest. This project was led by Dr Ross Piper with the logistical aid of James Dyer who works closely with the Crees Foundation based in the Manu region of the Peruvian Amazon. We used varying field techniques ranging from light traps to camera traps to monitor the species present and the differences in numbers between the types of rainforest. We catalogued the species captured and many were sent to the Natural History Museum in London, as well as some going as far as parasite specialists in Germany.The role I personally played was an assistant to the researchers, helping set up traps, aiding with logistical preparation and ensuring the smooth running of the base camp. The experience allowed me to develop problem solving skills in a unfamiliar environment, as well as valuable experience in the way scientific field work is performed.
