Immersive is a start-up primarily looking to translate VR audio technologies into hearing aid sales, fitting, and patient counseling tools. The decision making process for hearing aid selection is a tough and tricky step, and at Immersive, we believe hearing care providers should be provided better tools for counseling their patients on hearing decisions. We make practical VR immersive listening demonstrations (not only VR headsets) that let hearing care providers guide their customers through the hearing aid selection process in a time-efficient manner. In other words, instead of discussing how hearing aids will sound with words alone in a quiet clinic exam room, we let hearing care providers guide their customers through the hearing aid fitting process with an immersive, engaging audio demonstration.

I work as a researcher, focusing on virtual reality audio algorithms. Specifically, I have an interest in virtual reality audio algorithms for listening with hearing aids in realistic environments.

I worked as a Postdoctoral researcher under the guidance of Dr. Pavel Zahorik in the ZapLab at the University of Louisville. My research connects my experiences in room acoustics, virtual acoustics, and the auralization of complex, realistic listening environments with applications related to hearing science and hearing aids.

My research was in advanced concert hall measurement, auralization, and subjective testing techniques. Ultimately, my PhD research aimed to better understand what factors most influence a person's taste and preference in concert hall acoustics, and how this taste varies between individuals. Measurements of 21 concert halls around North America and Europe were made with a spherical microphone array and a spherical loudspeaker array for realistic and repeatable measurements between halls. Then, subjective testing was be conducted using the AURAS facility, which I constructed for my masters research. This testing has begun to provide insights into an individual's preference in concert hall acoustics.

I assisted in room acoustics and HVAC noise control consulting for a wide range of projects, including concert halls, opera houses, lecture halls, and museums. Additionally, I helped develop a 14 channel loudspeaker based auralization studio, which was used to help demonstrate and compare room designs for clients.

Working with Dr. Michelle Vigeant, I helped to construct a facility which can reproduce sound fields, to be used in subjective testing in concert hall acoustics (The AURAS Facility). This facility is a 32 channel 3D loudspeaker array, built within an anechoic chamber, which can reproduce sound fields using higher order ambisonics. With the facility, I also conducted a subjective study, looking at the perception of listener envelopment in simulated concert hall environments.

Designed and ran a subjective study, comparing the perceptual changes of using different head-related transfer functions in room acoustics modeling simulations.

I assisted in the testing and characterization of a thermoacoustic sound source for a long-range loudspeaker array. This included directivity measurements, third-octave band sound pressure level measurements, and subjective assessment of speech reproduction quality.

I worked as a mechanical HVAC engineer, assisting in heating and cooling load calculations, duct work design, diffuser selection, equipment selection, and creating revit families of HVAC equipment and diffusers.
