I am the managing principal of H. T. Harvey & Associates' Sacramento office. For over 20 years, I primarily have focused on the ecology, management, and restoration of California's rangelands. Much of my work emphasizes targeted and prescribed grazing, integrated invasive plant management, ecological restoration planning and implementation, long-term management and monitoring of habitat preserves and other conserved areas (e.g., mitigation sites and conservation banks), and regulatory permitting and environmental compliance in support of habitat restoration and land stewardship programs in California's Central Valley, Sierra Nevada/Southern Cascade, and adjacent foothill regions. My areas of ecological expertise include California's grassland, wetland, valley-foothill riparian, oak woodland, and montane meadow habitats and the species of plants, fish, and wildlife that these habitats support. I have particular expertise in the ecology and management of vernal pool ecosystems, having studied and surveyed thousands of these habitats and their unique species of plants and animals across California. As an ecologist, project manager, or principal, I have completed hundreds of projects ranging from rare plant surveys and wetland delineations, to focused surveys for numerous special-status species of fishes and wildlife, to studies that examine the relationships between fluvial and hydrogeomorphic processes and terrestrial and aquatic ecosystem functions, to designing and monitoring ecological restoration projects. Unique among many consulting ecologists, I also have extensive practical experience in on-the-ground land management, having overseen the day-to-day management and monitoring of thousands of acres of conserved lands and open spaces across California for decades.
