In Q1 2024, exports of goods and services comprised 10.9% of the U.S. GDP (Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis). Exporters are integral to a healthy economy, and as an International Trade Specialist Intern at the U.S. Department of Commerce, I had the opportunity to help domestic firms identify and capitalize on global business opportunities. This role, situated at the nexus of the private and public sectors, allowed me to deepen my understanding of their unique challenges and strengths. By serving as the treasurer for my residence hall, I worked to facilitate community building so that students could develop a reliable network of support, allowing them to thrive inside and outside the classroom. When I assumed this role, I thought learning was a one-way street, but coaching disproved that notion as I learned how to develop programming to meet specific business objectives, communicate with empathy, and lead with purpose.
