As an Enterprise Architect, my main focus was ensuring that the State made the right investments in technology. To reach that goal, I established and drove several initiatives aimed at modernizing the agency’s Information Management Division to sustainably deliver successful business outcomes at the pace of technical change. I established a governance process and framework for project execution and standards development. Using this governance as a base, I created and reviewed architectural and technical requirements for all projects, interagency contracts (IACs), and requests for proposals (RFPs), and additionally reviewed and validated vendor deliverables. I owned the technology strategy and roadmap, using them to guide and communicate our goals effectively both to the wider agency for collaboration/consensus and to the legislature for funding justification (LAR).
  • Bioware / Electronic Arts
    Development Director
    Bioware / Electronic Arts Jun 2012 - Mar 2016
    Austin, Texas Area
I moved from BioWare's internal tools team to the SWTOR game development team just after the launch of our third expansion (Shadow of Revan), functioning as the game's release manager as well as the program manager for our engineering teams (C/C++/HSL), itemization design, and microtransactions (C++/C#/HSL/Tableau) teams. I retained many of my responsibilities from before, managing our server health (Linux/Windows), building our game's patches, and administering Perforce. While I still performed code reviews and fix bugs here and there, I haven't done as much software engineering in this role, mostly sticking to Perl and VBA for automation purposes. Through analysis of our Emergency Patches, I was able to help reduce our need for critical bug fix patches by 13%.Up until then, I was a program/project manager and software engineer in the internal services group, supporting the studio's Infrastructure (Linux/Windows/Perforce/HTML/JS/ASP.NET), Build (QuickBuild/Perl/Python/NSIS), Tools (C#), and Configuration (C++/JSON) teams. There, I designed, implemented, and visualized telemetry to help us figure out how to increase user acquisition and conversion, implemented a streaming solution to get our users into SWTOR 75% faster, and built/deployed all of our games' expansions, patches, installers, and launchers. Through analysis of our CI failures, I was able to help us stop "breaking the build" by about 25%.
