About Matthew Russell

Working in one of the world’s leading insurance cities, Munich, Germany, was a fantastic experience. I began my insurance experience at GE Frankona Re, which is a part of General Electric Insurance Solutions. Our offices were near other major players, such as Allianz, Munich Re, Swiss Re, and Generali Insurance. Working amid the best and brightest in the industry provided a rich learning environment, and working in the FP&A department gave me visibility and understanding in many departments, such as pricing, reserving, accounting, and underwriting to name a few. And, of course, being a part of GE’s well known FP&A team was valuable and intensely competitive. After eight years of living abroad, my wife and I moved to California, where I was fortunate to find a great opportunity at a remarkable, little company in Napa, California named AUL Corp. They needed someone with sound insurance knowledge and expert analytical skills to expand their Risk Management department. Since stepping into my role, the department is responsible for pricing, reserving, dealer risk management, analytics, and reporting. We rely on over 20 years of data to help develop new programs and answer queries from current and potential partners.I am proud to have created the pricing (and reserving) for the AUL Absolute Suite of Products, encompassing six products with over 9,000 pricing options. In addition, we developed a new product to the industry, Reserve Care Lease. It is a new service contract that provides an additional stream of income where typically, in lease deals, there are no additional opportunities.Another creation is the AUL Claims Dashboard, which gives us insight to our claims expenses and average costs (severity). The data is split into multiple views and gives us timely information to monitor expenses. Pairing this with observations from our Claims Adjusters, we can take corrective action.

Listed skills include Budgets, Forecasting, Management, Process Improvement, and 23 others.
