De novo Design of Lanthanide Binding Coiled Coils - A New Class of Imaging AgentsThe design and synthesis of novel peptide sequences which, in the presence of lanthanide metal ions, are programmed to self assemble into coiled coil peptide motifs. The metal binding site has been incorporated into the hydrophobic core allowing the water coordination to be controlled thus allowing us to create exciting MRI active contrast agents or luminescent imaging agents. As part of my studies are am experienced in solid phase peptide synthesis and purification, HPLC, mass spectrometry, NMR spectroscopy, circular dichroism, UV-Vis spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy and analytical ultracentrifugation. Due to the nature of the work I have been thoroughly trained in the use, programming and data processing involved in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).

Several roles within the School of Chemistry including:-UV-Vis Spectrometer Trainer. Training all new members of staff and students on the correct and safe use of two UV-Vis Spectrometers.-Student Representative. Providing tours and information to potential applicants to the school. Representing the school at several events around the country.-Undergraduate Demonstrator. Demonstrating to undergraduates in the laboratory teaching them various techniques and ensuring safe working practices are followed.-Outreach Demonstrator. Assisting on school visit days, introducing school pupils to science at university, demonstrating laboratory techniques and ensuring safety.-Exam invigilator. Providing assistance to undergraduates that need extra support during exams.

Running and delivering a 12 session lecture course on "atomic bonding and spectroscopy" to 120 first year chemistry undergraduates. The course was run using enquire based learning techniques encouraging students to learn how to research subjects and problem solve. The roles of the course included preparing lecture material, delivering 20 minute lectures, over seeing problem solving workshops and marking coursework.

Worked as bar attendant at the busy city centre hotel. Responsible for serving customers, serving food, stock taking and cashing up.

The role involved general site maintenance and landscaping of local private and commercial properties including lawn mowing, hedge cutting and block paving.

Part time chef work at a local restaurant. Also responsible for completing the daily stock take and health and safety documentation.
