Matthew graduated in 2016 from University College London with a First Class MSci in Theoretical Physics.From 2016 - 2021 they completed a PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London on the topic of fire safety in building facades. Their thesis studied the possibilities of using data from commercial facade fire safety tests (such as BS 8414 in the UK) to predict the flammability of different facade systems. The work was funded by EPSRC and Arup, and involved deep collaboration with Instytut Techniki Budowlanej (ITB) in Poland. The research was awarded the SFPE Student Scholar Award in 2020.From 2021-2022 they worked as a Research Associate at Imperial College London, further studying the fire performance of building facades. The work was funded by Berkeley Group, and involved further collaboration with ITB.In 2022 they began working at Trigon Fire Safety as a Fire Engineer and Research Lead, supporting the company to continue to deliver high quality fire safety consultancy services.
