  • Community Cupboard
    Founder
    Community Cupboard Sep 2022 - Nov 2022
Inner West, New South Wales, Australia
Community Cupboard was my passion-project to go through the start-up process myself, stepping out of career of advising and getting closer to the 'doing'. I started with 4 jars of pretzels and a paper sign for accepting bank transfers. I grew Community Cupboard to 3 locations, over 100 customers, and a profitable business model in 8 weeks. Scaling Community Cupboard would have required more time and capital for what I was willing to commit, and is now a hobby for supplying friends, neighbours and communities I'm a part of.Community Cupboard taught many lessons in: - Making the tough choices between financial viability and impact - launching and iterating new products, services, and offerings - The struggles of early-stage founders balancing strategy, funding, planning and 'doing'. I have since returned to consulting, and will be looking for ways to incorporat the principles and learnings from this experience to make its way into my consulting and other plastic-free initiatives.

  • Make Your Change
    Director
Make Your Change Jan 2020 - Jun 2022
    Sydney, Australia
MakeYourChange.org was two different responses to the same question: Why is it easier to harm the planet than help it.v1 was an online directory at the start of the pandemic, working across more thant 200 environmental groups to make it easier to find the 100+ actions and events happening across the country. At our peak, we had 50 volunteers working in product development, content generation, online events, social media publishing and volunteer management. It was an incredibly rewarding experience, giving an outlet for many to respond to the attrocities of the Australian bushfires and floods. I learnt web development, attended and organised dozens of actions (including pioneering the 'calendar jam' tactic now used across the world) and educated hundreds on the systemic and intersectional factors driving climate change.v2, in a post-lockdown world, built educational, in-person workshops targetted at corporates educating their staff on climate change. This included large organisations such as BNP Parabis (Euorope's largest bank) and Bollore (20,000+ employees), to local activist groups, offices and busineses. After two years in the activist world, I stopped Make Your Change mid-2022 to re-engage in my professional (and paid) work. This however did not stop my support of environmental organisations, using strategy consulting to help more mature environmental groups such ACF, ACIUCN, Soft Landing, Green Connect, Resource Recovery Australia, and others.
