The most influential people in my life have been those first to admit the answers to life are not clear and there is no real formula to get to a definite answer. Instead, they encourage the search for a better understanding. They seem to allow all things in their life to teach them something about the world and how they are apart of it. In my better understanding of how I am connected to the world, I am able to bring myself to my work. To separate my Self from my work is antithetical to what I do as an artist. As a performer, I understand what it is to create a trusted space with utter strangers and have taken it into all aspects of my life. As a photographer, I have used my understanding of storytelling to my work.As a teaching artist, I have been able to define what success looks like for each set of students, modifying curriculum based on students’ needs, and co-create spaces that allow creativity to be fostered and thrive. • AN UNDERSTANDING OF MY AUDIENCE || I’ve trained for years to understand and focus on the audience’s perspective. It’s the key to effective storytelling. • CREATIVE SOLUTIONS UNDER PRESSURE || Improvisation is the backbone of what I do. Like a piano player who practices daily scales, the practice is in their body, even when the pressure is high. • CREATIVE BRAINSTORMING || Working for The New Yorker Festival in 2019, there was a mix up in the rental for the ticket scanners and they were pulled from us two events early. Within ten minutes, I came up with a solution for the team to secure all 400 guests’ reservations safely and securely in the same amount of time if we had the scanners. • TEAMWORK || I know what it is to work with different departments and leaders in order to cohesively achieve one huge task. • TEAM BUILDING || Teaching high school and elementary school has helped me establish trust in my rooms not only between me and the students, but with each other. • COMMUNICATION || Holding a minor in Communications, I’ve not only been interested in effective communication but also how to become a better communicator myself. • PUBLIC SPEAKING || Though most fear it, I understand the importance of being able to speak to a group of people. • EFFECTIVE TASK MAKING || I am able to see a series of problems, see a through line in all of them, and create a way to attack them all. • DIRECTING and OVERSEEING || I know how to oversee a cast or team of people, recognize and highlight their strengths by placing them in a position that allows others to see it as well.
