3rd Co-op Work TermWork Term Tasks:- Research and proof-of-concept development for a Human Machine Interface (HMI) created with an off the shelf single board computer, custom microcontroller, external buttons and an LCD screen.- Research and testing of a DC driver circuit for controlling LED lights. The circuit used solid state components with low on state resistance and heatsinks to support 3A loads.Work Term Deliverable:- Career Development Report: The Work Term 3 deliverable was a 4000 word report designed to kick start student career planning. The report utilizes reflection on past work terms and critical thinking about future goals to identify achievement strategies.

2nd Co-op Work TermWork Term Deliverable:- Technical presentation on “YOLOv5 Object Detection Model Training with Small Datasets” given to peer engineering students and co-workers. The presentation highlighted three recommended techniques for machine learning on a YOLOv5 model when a small dataset is required.Summary of Work Term Tasks- Applied a new dataset storage format to decrease the computation processing time. In preliminary testing, the new format decreased the most expensive subroutine from 2094 ms to 153 ms, 7% of the original execution time. - Conducted Research and Experimentation to apply machine learning and data collection techniques on custom/small datasets and industrial applications. - Object Detection Model Training with the YOLOv5 model family and open source code base made by Ultralytics. https://github.com/ultralytics/yolov5.

1st Co-op Work termSummary of Work Term Tasks:- Developed a cross-platform mobile application with react native for recording, watching and uploading videos to Pacefactory servers. The application is available on the apple and google play store. - Developed a node.js application to process computer-vision object recognition data. The processing created quantized safety data from detected image objects. The service moved expensive processing from Pacefactory's web-app client to the backend. Resulting in a faster User Interface.- Contributed to a backend application with python and Flask. The backend application facilitated media file storage for Pacefactory's Mobile Application. My contribution included restructuring the data format with a coworker.

- Learned and worked in Residential Carpentry on a team of 3 carpenters. The owner and carpenter, Dave Plane, taught me invaluable wood working and life skills. Working as a carpenter gave me an appreciation for the trade and a good work ethic.- Built approximately 12 houses with the team.

- Collected water and habitat quality data from a wetland area. The data was used to quantize the effect of the Ontario Power Generation Big Island Project's habitat development. The Big Island Project was the reconstruction of a pond system from a marsh land in Prince Edward County. The pond system was made by digging channels and ponds in the marshland with excavators. The resultant data showed that several fish and insect species had moved into and adapted to the new pond system.- Similar water and habitat quality data was collected for the Quinte Bay Remedial Action Plan. The Action Plan included long term monitoring of the Bay of Quinte because it was a designated an "Area of Concern" in 1985.
