Designed new mounting system for the radiators within the sidepods of the car (F23) to withstand the vibrations experienced by the car.Utilised MoTec's M84 ECU Manager software to alter the engines setup parameters allowing the car to run a true four stroke cycle as opposed to the wasted spark cycle run by the previous generation of the car.Successfully completed sponsorship applications, gaining interviews with potential industrial partners.Assisted with manufacture of the car, creating key components from technical drawings and CAD designs, exercising key problem solving skills when models didn't line up exactly with the car during manufacture.Selected to be part of the team to attend FSUK23 at Silverstone, gained invaluable experience working under pressure as part of the powertrain team, diagnosing and fixing issues when things didn't go as planned.
Completed a CFD study (ANSYS Fluent) assessing the effect different turbulence models have on film cooling capabilities of 10x engine scale film holes with a range of internal roughness measured over a series of blowing ratios.Created technical drawings for test pieces, set up with thermocouples and IR cameras within a recirculating heated wind tunnel and collected data from them.Presented CFD results alongside the physical study to the project sponsors, Rolls Royce. Designed and manufactured (3D printed) a low friction system to measure drag forces on bodies in a wind tunnel.
