As Chief Administrative Officer, I focus on organizational and programmatic strategy and effectiveness. I help the President and CEO to fulfill the Flinn Foundation’s mission, executive staff to optimize philanthropic and programmatic activities, and all staff to do work that meets high standards in a humane environment.Among my specific responsibilities, I take a lead role in planning content for Board of Directors meetings and developing strategic-planning activities across the Foundation’s areas of philanthropic interest, especially as related to implementation of Arizona’s Bioscience Roadmap and the work of its Steering Committee. I lead select Foundation-wide initiatives and special projects and represent the Foundation on external committees and at stakeholder meetings.I currently serve as board secretary for AZ Impact for Good, Arizona’s statewide member organization for nonprofits and grantmakers. Previously at the Flinn Foundation, I served as Vice President for Communications, and before that led the Flinn Scholars Program. My career began with several years in the education and social-services sectors in Phoenix, northern Virginia, and the Bay Area.My avocational interests include organizational learning, educational equity, climate justice, and trail running. I prefer the mountains to the coast, savory to sweet, heists to rom-coms, thin-crust to deep-dish, scale to exclusivity, and a living wage to a ten-dollar tee shirt. The three books I most often recommend: The Known World, by Edward P. Jones; The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History, by Elizabeth Kolbert; and the Modern Library edition of Anton Chekhov's Later Short Stories.⬝ ⬝ ⬝I hold a Master of Fine Arts degree in fiction writing from George Mason University and a Certificate in Nonprofit Executive Leadership from Arizona State University. As a Flinn Scholar, I graduated summa cum laude in English from Barrett, the Honors College at ASU.
