I'm Matthew King, a bold writer, creative advisor, and fearless explorer. As the Founder and CEO of Our COMMON Foundation, I lead and advise social entrepreneurs, artists, creatives, and conservationists who dare to make a positive social and environmental impact.I am a student of the world. I've been to every continent except Antarctica, completed learning expeditions to over 45 countries, lived in five, and studied in four—completing my Ph.D. at the University of Cambridge. My journey has taken me to incredible heights and depths. I've dived the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans and trekked the Rockies, Andes, Great Dividing Range, Cascades, and more. Yet, my most transformative journey has been from head to heart. My adventures aren't limited to geographical expeditions. I've embarked on a profound inner odyssey, seeking wisdom and enlightenment through philosophy, spirituality, and literature. The universe rewarded me with a revelation in 2012 when I met my best teacher of any: cancer. Defying all odds, with less than a 15% chance of survival, I discovered my true purpose: to create, inspire, and empower.Ergo, I have been focusing my energy lately on creative pursuits—from serving Our COMMON Foundation to producing art to writing fiction and nonfiction while managing a portfolio of property and investments. My vision is to live a life brimming with balance and creativity. I thrive on teaching, advising, mentoring, and learning from the unstoppable forces of youth, peers, and professionals driving mind-blowing change. I strive to increase awareness of our unique place in the cosmos, our connection to all life on Earth, and the imperative to protect it for future generations.I've lent my expertise to governments, universities, non-profits, think tanks, and the private sector, shaking up the status quo across the globe. Current

Boulder, Co, Us

I established Our COMMON Foundation in 2007. Our mission is to combine the power of an incubator with philanthropy and social entrepreneurship to support, promote, and develop non-profit ideas and organizations in the US and abroad that benefit people, the planet, and peace. Over the years, we've worked closely with social and environmental entrepreneurs and mentored, trained, and advised program founders and leaders, securing millions externally and internally to advance our vision. In 2024, we're embarking on an exciting new chapter as we focus on developing and launching the Go Good app by Founder and Creator Frank Biasi to help travelers explore and sustain Earth's treasured places. We are dedicated to strengthening the Parsonage Gallery, which focuses on contemporary art exploring ecology and spirituality in a historic estate on the Maine coast. Finally, we remain committed to Ukraine and will focus on defending democracy and supporting Ukraine's defense of its sovereign territory with sustained attention on the war through public showings of Ukraine Under Fire, directed by Jordan Campbell. At the helm, I oversee the long-term strategic vision, meticulous budgeting, and establishment of robust operational plans and systems to realize our foundation's goals while remaining compliant with non-profit law. Additionally, I spearhead vetting new projects and programs while forging meaningful domestic and international partnerships. Working closely with a dedicated core team, founders, and creators, I lead and advise on developing and implementing strategic initiatives.Since our inception, we've launched impactful initiatives worldwide on a range of themes: sustainable development, agricultural and conservation efforts, documentary films, fine arts and performing arts, Water, Access to Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), educational scholarships focused on underserved students, humanitarian efforts, immigrant legal advocacy, and other great causes.
