Profile bio

About Matthew Korey, Ph.D.

I am a scientist with specialization in soft materials synthesis, characterization, bio-based materials, composite formulations, and - more broadly - circular economy of composite materials. I have extensive experience in epoxy thermosetting chemistry as well as chemical functionalization of polymeric additives to enhance desirable properties. My PhD work was in finding biologically-sourced replacements for petroleum-sourced additives, monomers, and precursor units for composite systems. My postdoctoral work focused on mechanical, chemical, biological, and thermochemical methods of composite recycling and the use of advanced re-processing techniques to recycle industrial composites waste. Now I help lead the broader decarbonization initiative at the Manufacturing Demonstration Facility at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Listed skills include Microsoft Office, Public Speaking, Biomedical Engineering, Matlab, and 15 others.
