Between the Bridges is a partnership between the community of Dartmouth North, the Province of Nova Scotia, and a growing number of residents, community organizations, departments of government and businesses. Together, we are Working Together in New Ways for Social Change, addressing complex challenges that has negatively impacted Dartmouth North for generations. Between the Bridges is working with and in support of the diverse neighbourhoods located between the Macdonald and MacKay bridges in Halifax Regional Municipality.

Dartmouth North

Between the Bridges is an exciting partnership of the community of Dartmouth North, the Province of Nova Scotia and United Way Halifax designed to address complex community needs and interests. It uses a Collective Impact approach to engage community and cross-sectoral partners in working together towards a shared agenda.The Community coordinator works closely with the community and engaging a growing number of residents and partners to collectively develop a common agenda that will achieve the change that results in individual, family and community success.

With a background in business and management and his front-line experience in public service and local politics, Matt brought together practical ideas and an inspiring vision in his bid to represent the people of Harbourview – Burnside - Dartmouth East.

As the outreach and communications assistant, Matt played a key role in the communication and co-ordination of action on many local issues such as redeveloping Shannon Park, cuts to Canada Post, and Daylighting the Sawmill River. He also organized many well-received special events, such as the annual Dartmouth Community Service Fair as well as several town halls and community round tables.Matt also served in his community role as an active participant in the Dartmouth North Association, the Greater Burnside Business Association, a community crosswalk flag volunteer, and as a Member of the Board of the Public Good Society of Dartmouth.

In his time with Bed Bath and Beyond, Matt learned a great deal about the operations and management of a highly successful corporate retailer. Matt received three promotions within the management structure of the Dartmouth location and was requested to help manage inventory reviews in Ontario and support new store openings in Alberta.

In his eight years as a part of this successful family business, Matt oversaw a store renovation/expansion, introduction of computerized record keeping, and additional customer service features that helped Paint Depot's sales continue to grow every year despite increased competition in the area from larger independent stores and big-box stores.
